These workshops are designed for individuals wishing to explore the medium for the first time as well as for individuals wishing to "revisit" the basics. Depending on the type of class, I will provide the materials, tools and equipment necessary, and participants are invited to bring along any materials which they'd like to experiment with. The classes, which can be run for individuals and small groups, usually last two hours, though longer sessions are available on request. Creative Process workshops
These workshops are custom designed to suit the specific needs of the workplace and the people who will be participating. The workshops can be any length of time from a couple of hours to a full week. If interested, contact deastham@sympatico.ca.
Longer Workshops
Glimmer, Shimmer, French Curves and Pearl Ex
Participants create beautiful decorated papers using a variety of media including acrylics and watercolours, interference paints and Pearl ex on light and dark papers. We also do some experimenting with curves using French curves, pie plates etc. This workshop was first presented at the Hamilton Sampler Calligraphy Guild Conference, April 2006. (Whole or half-day workshop)
Handmade Journals
Each participant will create a journal which best suits his or her medium of expression. Participants will experiment with various techniques for creating pages in the journal. Each participant is expected to provide his or her journal(s) and the tools of choice. In addition, various tools and media will be provided by the instructor for the techniques to be explored in each class. (This class can be taken as a whole or half-day workshop or can run for a couple of hours a week over several weeks)
Paper Weaving
Woven paper makes a great embellishment for a card or larger piece, creating adding depth of colour and texture and creating unity in the overall design. It’s a great way to use all those beautiful papers, whether hand-made or commercial. In a full day workshop, we will create the papers in the morn ing and create a woven card in the afternoon. In a half-day workshop, we begin with already-decorated papers. We will use weaving to embellish a card. This workshop is being offered in April 2008 by the Royal City Calligraphy Guild. (Whole or half-day workshop.)
Write here, Write now
In this workshop, participants use watercolour, gouache and acrylics as a background for decorating papers with their own hand-writing or calligraphic lettering styles (morning). These papers are then used to create beautiful cards which are very personal. (afternoon). This workshop was first presented at Inklinks 05, RCCG biannual conference and also for the Kent Scribes, Ridgetown, Ontario, April 2006. (Whole day workshop)
